Jo, ISOs stempel gør standarden åben. Dvs dette er faktisk
standard-måden at lave åbne standarder på. Man tager en leverandørejet
standard og smider den gennem den åbne proces. Fx Bell Labs proprietære 
UNIX-standard blev smidt igennem IEEE og ISOs mølle, og vi fik en
POSIX-standard. Ligeledes var C, C++, ECMAscript, Pascal og en række
andre standarder oprindeligt udviklet af en enkelt leverandør.

Det der gør standarden åben her, er at alle kan komme med input
til ændringer i processen med at standardisere det, og at kontrollen med
den fremtidige udvikling og fejlrettelser mv ligger i
standardiseringsorganet.
