Mer information finner du nedan;

So what IS Hype?

Hype is a demo party.

A demo party is an opportunity to meet old friends, make a couple of new
ones, show off your skills in the competitions and have good computer
fun.
There was a time before demo parties, around the time when floppy disk
drives had useful processing power and were sold as separate accessories
priced almost like the computer itself. Back then computer enthusiasts
had no real way to communicate electronically with each other if they
happened to find someone else sharing their interest. Computers were
expensive toys for nerds with glasses. Software was small and shared on
floppy disks via the postal service.
The copy party was invented. At the copy party programmers came together
to share knowledge, information and cool programs they had made and to
have a good time in the process.
The programs were quite often astonishing demonstrations, demos, of what
could be done with the computer. They could feature both music and
motion graphics of different kinds. But since there was no way to store
something like an animation or sound recording in the computer, they
would have been far too big to fit on any of the available medias at
that time. The music and graphics were generated by the program on the
fly, frame by frame, the instant before they were played and shown on
the screen. Thit is called real-time sound and graphics.
Today it IS possible to store an animation or a sound on a computer
medium and the general public has already been astonished by the
computer generated graphics in Hollywood movie productions such as
Jurassic Park, Titanic and ultimately Toy Story.

Demos are still being made though.

There is still a thrill in making a demo. It feels good to know that you
are pushing your computer to the limit. It feels good to give away an
infinitely long movie that will fit on a single floppy disk to a friend
when the Hollywood productions will need many gigabytes of storage. And
it feels good to know that your movie will be generated in real-time by
a home PC, whereas Hollywood supercomputers need several months to
generate the effects we see in the movies.
Naturally, a demo will not be as realistic as those effects, but demos
are many times just as astonishing, entertaining and tantalizing. With
the hardware graphics acceleration available in common PCs today we are
also seeing more "natural" effects appearing in demos, such as fog and
smoke.
The ever increasing processing power in the "common" PC is also a reason
for demos to grow even more astonishing. The new computer does the same
work as the old computer in shorter time, leaving us with free time to
fill up with new work; another cool effect or higher complexity in an
old effect, making it look even better.

"You aint seen nothing yet."

Quite often programmers like myself tend to be really bad at creating
the base graphics to apply effects on, to come up with the ideas for the
effects and to compose and arrange the music that is supposed to be
played throughout the movie.

Enter the graphics artist and the musician.

These two individuals are also computer enthusiasts. They, however, use
the computer as a tool and a practical way to store their works of art,
rather than the programmer that gets a kick out of programming the
computer.
Together these different artists create things that will truly impress
you, tickle your imagination and maybe even make an impact on your very
person. They create demos.
Demos are beautiful. And they fit on a couple of floppy disks.

Hype is a demo party.
