Jeg kender ikke tcsh, men i bash kan du gøre det på med

#!/bin/bash
xterm -e ping -i 200 $1 &
PINGPID=$!
/home/gnalle/xpilot-4.2.1/src/client/xpilot -join $
kill -TERM $PINGPID
