Almindelige shell-variable nedarves ikke til programmer der kaldes
fra shell (eller andre programmer).
Placeres de i "environment" nedarves de til de kaldte programmer.
I bash (og andre bourne-shell typer) bruger man "export" :

abc=123
export abc
export def=456

I csh/tcsh sker det med setenv :

setenv abc 123
setenv def 456

så hvis et program skal bruge TERM variablen så SKAL den placeres
i environment.
