Så generelt vil "man en-kommando" give dig en manual på kommandoen "en-kommando" (fx "ls"). Her kan du læse om hvad kommandoen kan og hvilke "options" du kan give med (fx -l).

Det er osse værd at bemærke følgende som står øverst i "man ls":
SYNOPSIS
       ls [OPTION]... [FILE]...

Det fortæller dig at ls kaldes som "ls" efterfulgt af mellemrum, efterfulgt af nul eller flere options, efterfulgt af mellemrum, efterfulgt af nul eller flere filnavne. Grunden til at det er "nul eller flere" er de kantede paranteser...
