disse har jeg slet ikke med i min opsætningsfil.

Jeg har ovenstående $_layout = "dk" og det giver korrekt ÆØÅ med
taster i xdosemu. 
Et alternativ layout er "dk-latin1" men det vil give forkerte
tegn da der så anvendes latin1-tastatur.
Check også brugerens egne opsætningsfiler ~/.dosemurc mv.
hvis det har nogle forkerte indstillinger.

Måske det er X-opsætning der er anderledes?
Jeg kører dog ikke UTF-8 i system-opsætning  men gode gamle iso-8859-1. 
Måske det er nogle  globale systemopsætninger der  driller?
