Hej - Du sidder nok og venter på et forslag, så jeg vil give dig et.

For at kunne skrive til en fil, som xorg.conf, skal du være "root".
(den systemansvarlige).
Jeg er ikke en "høg" i Ubuntu, men mon ikke du feks i en terminal skal skrive:

sudo gedit

...derefter gøre dine tilskrivninger og gemme filen.

"sudo"-kommandoen, som du brugte her:"sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-backup"
gør, at du bliver "root" og dermed har alle rettigheder.

Ja - du har en terminal, når det grafiske miljø forsvinder. Du bliver efterladt deri.
Så kan du, som root udskifte den nye, ikke fungerende xorg.conf med din sikkerhedskopi.
