hvordan gemte du ?
med :

 cd  /home
 tar zcvf /extdatapath/USERNAVN.tar.gz  USERNAVN

jeg formoder at den eksterne disk kørte fat32 og du kopierer over
via nautilus  eller lignende?
så kan du risikerer ikke at få alt over og rettigheder ender forkert,
og afhængig af om du huskede at gemme ".xxx" filer og directories
mangler du sikkert diverse data til applikationer.
