Det virker hos mig hvis jeg stiller lidt om paa tar argumenterne:

sslug@sslug:~$ echo $EXCL
--exclude='*~' --exclude='.#*'
sslug@sslug:~$ tar cvf /tmp/tst.tar $EXCL /tmp
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
/tmp/
/tmp/.ICE-unix/
tar: Socket /tmp/.ICE-unix/2595 ignoriert
tar: Socket /tmp/.ICE-unix/dcop2584-1153758241 ignoriert
/tmp/kde-hstadler/
...
sslug@sslug:~$ tar tf /tmp/tst.tar
tmp/
tmp/.ICE-unix/
tmp/.X0-lock
tmp/kde-hstadler/
...

tar er vist saa gammel at den ikke holder sig til normal argument parsning,
due to historical reasons
