Så er det helt klart min x-term, der ikke kan håndtere tegnkodningen...
Her er hvad ovenstående giver hos mig:

$ java Unicode
ABRAKADABRA SIM SALA BIM - ÃLLEBæLLE MIG FORTæLLE

rxvt-unicode (i en lidt ældre version) er en standard pakke i Mandrive 2006, så jeg har lige installeret, men det er ikke Unicode versionen, der starter når den kaldes...?
-Men det roder jeg lidt viddere med...
