Kender du kommandoen, der ligger bag?  Jeg har forsøgt med
'startx login -- :1', og det ser ud til, at den starter en ny x-session,
men den lukker straks ned med advarslen 
'(WW) NV(0): Failed to set up write-combining range (0xe8000000,
0x2000000)', og det er det samme som almindelig bruger og som root.
Det er det samme om jeg erstatter login med kdm.

Måske skal man ned på et lavere niveau end en almindelig brugers
bash-shell for at kunne logge på som en anden bruger?
